Banana Flapjacks

Oats and bananas are both great sources of energy, so these flapjacks make a wonderful afternoon energy boost! The bananas add sweetness to the mix, and they bind the oats together well, which means that the recipe requires less sugar and butter. You can easily adapt this recipe by adding chopped nuts or chocolate chips instead of sultanas.


40g butter

60g brown sugar

1 tsp golden syrup

225g porridge oats

50g raisins

1 tsp cinnamon

2 ripe bananas, mashed


  1. Preheat the oven to 200’C and grease a baking tray
  2. Place the butter, sugar and golden syrup in a pan over a low heat
  3. Stir the mixture constantly and heat until the butter is melted
  4. Combine the bananas with the butter mixture
  5. Stir the raisins, cinnamon and oats until they are well combined
  6. Spread the mixture into your prepared baking tray, and flatten with the back of a spoon
  7. Place in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until slightly brown
  8. Cut into fingers and leave to cool
