On May 17th Cambridge Sustainable Food, as a sponsor of the Eat Cambridge Festival, had a very large stall in the foyer of the Corn Exchange, involving volunteers from eight of our member organisations: Cofco, Transition Cambridge, Cambridge Council Recycling Team, Cambridge Carbon Footprint, The Liberated Feast, LEAF, Cambridge Cropshare and CamBake, with literature from two more members: Food Cycle and Arjuna. 27 volunteers helped throughout the day – our thanks to them!
We were very pleased to get 55 new people signing up as members. (It helped that people signing up received a voucher sheet of special offers from some of our members!) We also had 247 responses to our food shopping survey – an excellent result. Cofco got 77 new sign-ups to their local veg box scheme, a record for them at one event. And the Recycling Team gave away a very large number of compost caddies! (Bev also gave a talk on Healthy and Sustainable Food at the event, which attracted about 25 people.)
A lot of people put a lot of time and effort into this stall and we think it was worth it. We are very grateful to everyone, but special thanks are due to Duncan Catchpole of Cofco, who put up a large part of the sponsorship money and Brand Brandsma of Cambridge Carbon Footprint, who did an enormous amount of work preparing and serving the absolutely delicious vegan food, given away free at the stall. The food was certainly a great draw. (CamBake also had tastings of a range of delicious local bread.)
