Food waste was a top priority at the consultation meeting on November 18th, when 55 people from 36 organisations got together and decided to form Cambridge Sustainable Food. Cambridgeshire County Council and Cambridge City Council already do excellent work in this area and a number of community organisations, including Cambridge Food Cycle and the Liberated Feast, regularly create meals from food that would otherwise be wasted. Transition Cambridge Food Group’s Fruit Picking Project also aims to prevent waste and they and Cambridge Carbon Footprint ran a number of events on food waste under heading of the Making the Most of Food, with funding from Love Food Hate Waste.
Cambridge Sustainable Food is forming a sub-group on the topic of Food Waste and invites wider membership of this group. Contact Rebecca Weymouth-Wood (Cambridge City Council Recycling Team) on Rebecca.Weymouth-Wood@cambridge.gov.uk
