Supermarkets are not usually associated with sustainable food but they do account for the vast majority of food sold in the UK. A local branch of one of the big supermarket chains stocking a range of genuinely sustainable food products could have a greater impact than all the other projects put together. Getting a national chain of supermarkets to modify their sourcing and distribution policies is an ambition that CSFN couldn’t possibly hope to fulfil. However, as part of an ever increasing mass of opinion in favour of sustainable food we can hope that the decision makers within these companies take note of what we are trying to achieve. CSFC will certainly be willing to work in partnership with any local branches who may be willing to participate and endorse their efforts.
