Access to healthy food for all city residents is a key aim of Cambridge Sustainable Food. Improving access to affordable healthy food close to where people live is an important step towards combatting hunger, obesity and diet-related ill-health. This includes protecting the high street from being dominated by fast food outlets.
There are some excellent initiatives in Cambridge that make delicious, nutritious food available to all:
Cambridge City Food Bank provides essential food for local people in crisis.
Cambridge FoodCycle collects surplus produce from city food retailers and turns it into tasty meals, served every week at two city venues.
Food4food is a social enterprise, operated by Cambridge charity Wintercomfort for the homeless, that provides outside catering and a cafe. Ingredients come from ethical and sustainable sources.
