Nanna Mexico

Silver award winners, Nanna Mexico, are a local takeaway with two outlets in Cambridge. Operating out of two locations in Cambridge on Regent Street and Petty Cury as well as a roving van, Nanna Mexico offers fresh and authentic Mexican food cooked from scratch.

They source all their meat locally including from the award-winning Dingley Dell farm and Hundred River foods in Norfolk.

Their coffee is from Hot Numbers who have an ethical buying policy, sugar is Fairtrade and all the homemade desserts are from local suppliers. Only recycled and recyclable packaging is used. Fresh tap water is always available and a fresh fruit option is on offer.

Look out for the forthcoming vegan and veggie promotions at Nanna Mexico on a Tuesday, and if you are around the rest of the week then just request that any item be made without meat or animal products.

Cooking from scratch means that the food at Nanna Mexico contains very little salt, sugar and additional fats. Luis, founder of Nanna Mexico has built good practices in from the beginning, such as deliberately running food stocks low so that by the close of day there is little food waste.

Luis is very passionate about the principles of sustainability and feels strongly that education and teaching food skills are the way forward to making real changes in sustainable and healthy food. To this end he works with Winter Comfort to employ homeless people, and has also run cookery sessions in prisons. He also  runs the “Guacamole Shift” in schools teaching children to appreciate and make fresh food from scratch.
