Cambridge Food Justice and Health Conference

On Wednesday 4 October Cambridge Sustainable Food and Cambridge City Council co- hosted  the Cambridge Food Justice  and Health Conference at The Meadows Community Centre.

Over 120 people attended to listen and learn from inspirational speakers.

  • Dr Liam Loftus, Health Inequalities Consultant working with Cambridge City Foodbank, shared statistics about the health outcomes for local people facing food insecurity.

  • Tansy Miller, from The Trussell Trust, shared details of their Hunger in the UK Report, which shows that an alarming 14% of people in the UK (that's 11.3 million people) are facing hunger right now.

  • Diane Lane, from Cambridgeshire Integrated Care System explained how other services - not just healthcare - can play a big part in improving people's health.

  • We also heard from Cambridge City Foodbank and many of the local hubs and projects who are fighting hunger in our city.

The highlight of the conference was the first viewing of a brand new film about hunger in Cambridge. Hidden Voices: How food insecurity impacts lives and health in Cambridge tells the story of local residents in our city who are facing food poverty and the people who are trying to help them.
