Introduction

Sugar Smart Cambridge is part of a national campaign supported by the Jamie Oliver Foundation and Sustainable Food Cities (SFC).  Its main aims are focussed on raising public awareness about the dangers of too much sugar and to work with organisations that will facilitate people to reduce sugar intake. Cambridge Sustainable Food (CSF) is a local food partnership and has received an Awards Grant from their parent organisation, SFC, to run a Cambridge City Campaign for 6 months, with a public launch in January 2017. Our Sugar Smart steering group comprises representatives from active participants including Cambridge United, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, CCC Public Health team, Cambridge College Catering and community initiatives involving arts, young people, cookery workshops and community stalls.

Job Description

We are looking for a digitally minded, freelance, marketing communications and events manager to help us achieve our goals within Cambridge. The role will be flexible, part-time, 1-2 days a week with salary of up to £200 per day depending on experience. You will be expected to travel to local steering group member sites as required and attend the steering group meetings. Otherwise this role will largely be working from home. We anticipate the starting date to be mid November.

Key aspects of your role will be to:

  • Facilitate bi-monthly steering committee meetings, taking actions where appropriate
  • Coordinate, plan and implement all associated steering committee communications
  • Create an online presence for Sugar Smart Cambridge, to include a website and relevant social media channels
  • Coordinate, plan and implement the Sugar Smart public launch event and associated communications at Cambridge United in January 2018
  • Liaise with organisers of other Sugar Smart events to ensure consistent messaging and branding
  • Monitor and measure marketing activity and produce mid-way and end reports that illustrate their reach and effectiveness

As an expert content creator, you will be required to:

Plan and produce regular content to be published on the website as well as all related digital channels within the Sugar Smart group

  • Create press releases for local and national publication
  • Ensure that consistent messaging and branding is maintained throughout

Your personal skills, attributes and expertise should include:

  • Experience of website creator tools such as WordPress, Weebly or Wix
  • Proven expertise in effective social media marketing
  • Ability to work effectively alone and within a diverse team to plan and execute promotional events
  • Some experience of event management
